There are evenings that just work from the first song to the last — and Connor and Emma McKenzie’s wedding reception at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club on 2nd May 2026 was absolutely one of them. A packed dance floor, a brilliant crowd, live saxophone, and one of those unmistakably Scottish wedding moments made for a night that every guest will remember for a very long time.
Royal Musselburgh Golf Club — A Brilliant Local Venue
Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Prestonpans is a venue that sits right on our doorstep in East Lothian — and one we always enjoy working at. The function room is well-proportioned, the team are professional and welcoming, and the room has a warmth that lends itself perfectly to a big, energetic night of dancing. Founded in 1774, it’s one of the oldest golf clubs in the world, and while the history is there in the building, on a wedding night it simply becomes a brilliant backdrop for everything that matters: the music, the people, and the dancing.

Tom B Sax — The Man in the Red Suit
One of the highlights of the evening was the addition of Tom B Sax — performing as The Man in the Red Suit — as live saxophone entertainment alongside the DJ for the opening of the evening. If you’ve never seen a live sax player work alongside a DJ at a wedding, it’s genuinely hard to describe the impact it has on a room. The combination of live performance and DJ energy gets people onto the dance floor immediately and sets a tone that’s very difficult to match any other way.
Tom was outstanding all evening — working through the crowd, feeding off the energy around him, and giving the whole night an electric, non-stop start. Connor and Emma’s guests were ready to dance from the very first track, and Tom made absolutely certain nobody stayed in their seat for long. If you’re considering adding live saxophone to your wedding evening, it’s one of the best investments you can make in the atmosphere of the night — we’d be happy to discuss how it works alongside our evening reception DJ service.
Loch Lomond and the Moment of the Night
No Scottish wedding reception is complete without a moment that brings the whole room together — and Connor and Emma’s came during Runrig’s Loch Lomond. As the song filled the room and every guest sang along at the top of their voices, the bride and groom were lifted high by their friends and family in one of those spontaneous, unrepeatable moments that define a brilliant wedding night. You can’t plan for it. It just happens when the music is right, the crowd is right, and everything connects at exactly the right moment.
It’s one of the reasons we always recommend thinking carefully about the songs that make a Scottish wedding unique — the right track at the right moment can create memories that last a lifetime.
A Crowd Who Stayed All Night
What made this reception stand out beyond the performances and the music was the guests. Connor and Emma had gathered people who were genuinely there to celebrate and dance — and they did, from the first song to the last. That’s not always the case. A lot of evening receptions see guests drift away as the night goes on. Occasionally though you get a room full of people who are all in, all night. Connor and Emma had exactly that, and it made for one of those receptions where the energy just kept building rather than fading.
If you’re curious about what creates that kind of atmosphere, our post on why guests don’t always dance at weddings — and how a good DJ can change that — is worth a read. And our piece on why some wedding receptions feel genuinely different explores exactly the kind of energy Connor and Emma’s evening had.
Congratulations Connor and Emma
Congratulations to Connor and Emma McKenzie — it was an absolute pleasure being part of your wedding night. Royal Musselburgh was the perfect setting, Tom B Sax was outstanding, and your guests made our job a joy from the first song to the last. We hope the memories stay with you both for a very long time.
