Connor & Emma McKenzie — Wedding Reception at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, Prestonpans

Written by James · May 17, 2026

There are evenings that just work from the first song to the last. Connor and Emma McKenzie’s wedding reception at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club on 2nd May 2026 was absolutely one of them. A packed dance floor, a brilliant crowd, live saxophone — it was one of those unmistakably Scottish wedding nights. Every guest there will remember it for a very long time.

Royal Musselburgh Golf Club — A Brilliant Local Venue

Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Prestonpans is a venue that sits right on my doorstep in East Lothian. It’s one I always enjoy working at. The function room is well-proportioned and the team are professional and welcoming. The room also has a warmth that lends itself perfectly to a big, energetic night of dancing. Founded in 1774, it’s one of the oldest golf clubs in the world. While the history is there in the building, it fades into the background on a Royal Musselburgh wedding night. What takes over is a brilliant backdrop for everything that matters: the music, the people, and the dancing.

Tom B Sax — The Man in the Red Suit

One of the highlights of the evening was Tom B Sax. He performed as The Man in the Red Suit, playing live saxophone alongside the DJ to open the night. If you’ve never seen a live sax player alongside a DJ at a wedding, it’s hard to describe the impact. It transforms a room. The combination of live performance and DJ energy gets people onto the dance floor immediately. It sets a tone that’s very difficult to match any other way.

Tom was outstanding all evening — working through the crowd, feeding off the energy around him. He gave the whole night an electric, non-stop start. Connor and Emma’s guests were ready to dance from the very first track. Tom made absolutely certain nobody stayed in their seat for long. If you’re considering adding live saxophone to your wedding evening, it’s one of the best investments you can make. It adds real atmosphere to the night. I’d be happy to discuss how it works alongside my evening reception DJ service. It’s the kind of detail that makes a Royal Musselburgh wedding evening unforgettable.

Loch Lomond and the Moment of the Night

No Scottish wedding reception is complete without a moment that brings the whole room together. For Connor and Emma, that moment came during Runrig’s Loch Lomond. As the song filled the room, every guest sang along at the top of their voices. The bride and groom were lifted high by their friends and family. It was one of those spontaneous, unrepeatable moments that define a brilliant wedding night. You can’t plan for it. It just happens when the music is right, the crowd is right, and everything connects at exactly the right moment.

It’s one of the reasons I always recommend thinking carefully about the songs that make a Scottish wedding unique. Get the right track at the right moment, and you create memories that last a lifetime. It’s exactly what made this Royal Musselburgh wedding one to remember.

A Crowd Who Stayed All Night

What made this reception stand out beyond the performances and the music was the guests. Connor and Emma had gathered people who were genuinely there to celebrate and dance. And they did, from the first song to the last. That’s not always the case. A lot of evening receptions see guests drift away as the night goes on. Occasionally though you get a room full of people who are all in, all night. Connor and Emma had exactly that. It made for one of those receptions where the energy just kept building rather than fading.

If you’re curious what creates that atmosphere, it’s worth reading my post on why guests don’t always dance at weddings. It covers how a good DJ can change that. My piece on why some wedding receptions feel genuinely different explores exactly that. It’s the kind of energy Connor and Emma’s evening had. It’s the same energy that makes a Royal Musselburgh wedding crowd so much fun to DJ for.

Congratulations Connor and Emma

Congratulations to Connor and Emma McKenzie on a brilliant Royal Musselburgh wedding. It was an absolute pleasure being part of your night. Royal Musselburgh was the perfect setting and Tom B Sax was outstanding. Your guests made this a joy from the first song to the last. I hope the memories stay with you both for a very long time.
