Frequently Asked Questions

About the Service

What makes Premier Disco Weddings different from a standard DJ hire?

Premier Disco Weddings is a dedicated luxury wedding service, not a general entertainment agency. A limited number of weddings are taken each year, which means every booking receives genuine personal attention from first enquiry to final song. You deal directly with James throughout — no agency middlemen, no whoever-is-free-that-weekend.

How much experience do you have with premium venues?

Premier Disco Weddings is the luxury wedding arm of Premier Disco, which has been performing at weddings across Scotland for many years at some of the country’s most prestigious venues — including Prestonfield House, The Signet Library, Gleneagles, Fairmont St Andrews, Hopetoun House and many more. That depth of experience underpins everything on offer here.

Do you only do weddings?

Premier Disco Weddings focuses exclusively on weddings. For other events — corporate functions, race nights, ceilidhs, silent discos and more — visit Premier Disco.

Music Planning

How does the music planning process work?

After booking you will have access to a personal online wedding planning portal where you can submit your must-play songs, first dance choice, do-not-play list and any other preferences at any time. A dedicated consultation — by phone, video call or in person — is also arranged to go through your day in detail and make sure the atmosphere you have in mind is fully understood before the day arrives.

Can we choose all our own music?

Absolutely — and it is actively encouraged. Your must-plays go in, your do-not-plays stay out. What James brings is the skill to read the room and fill the gaps in a way that keeps your dance floor moving. Couples who submit detailed preferences consistently have the best evenings.

What genres and styles do you cover?

Everything from classic Motown and disco through 80s and 90s anthems, chart pop, indie, RnB, commercial dance and current chart music. For Scottish weddings, traditional ceilidh music is also covered. Whatever your style, it can be made to work for your guest mix.

Can you provide background music during the wedding breakfast?

Yes. The Dinner to Dancing and Full Day packages both include carefully curated background music during the wedding breakfast and drinks reception, transitioning seamlessly into the evening entertainment. It makes a real difference to the overall feel of the day.

On the Day

When do you arrive and how long does setup take?

Typically two to three hours before the first guests enter the reception room, ensuring everything is fully set up, sound-checked and ready well before it is needed. Load-in arrangements, goods lifts and setup restrictions at most major Scottish wedding venues are well known from experience.

Do you coordinate with the venue and other suppliers?

Yes — this is an important part of the service. James liaises directly with your venue coordinator, photographer, videographer and other suppliers to make sure transitions between key moments — speeches, first dance, cutting the cake — are properly timed and flow naturally. You should not have to manage any of this yourself on your wedding day.

What happens if there is a technical problem on the day?

Full backup equipment is carried to every wedding. In the extremely unlikely event of a technical issue, contingency is in place to ensure the music continues without interruption. In many years of performing at weddings there has never been an evening ruined by equipment failure.

Practicalities

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Full public liability insurance is in place and all equipment is PAT tested. The insurance and technical requirements of every premium wedding venue in Scotland are met without exception. Insurance certificates can be provided to your venue on request.

How much do you charge?

Pricing depends on your date, venue, package and any additional services. Evening reception packages start from £495. Visit the Wedding DJ Prices page for a full breakdown of all packages and starting prices, or get in touch for a personalised quote.

How do we secure our booking?

A deposit of £100 secures your date once you are happy to proceed. The remaining balance is due closer to your wedding date. A straightforward booking confirmation is sent and access to the online planning portal follows shortly after.

How far in advance should we book?

As early as possible — particularly for peak summer Saturdays and popular autumn weekends at premium venues. Many couples book 12 to 18 months in advance. The sooner you get in touch, the better the chance your date is available.

Do you travel across Scotland?

Yes. All of Scotland is covered including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth and Perthshire, Fife, the Scottish Borders, East Lothian, West Lothian, Midlothian and beyond. Travel to most venues is included in the package price — for more remote locations any additional costs are always made clear before you book.
