When you’re choosing a wedding DJ, safety compliance can feel like a small detail — until it isn’t. Most of Scotland’s premium wedding venues won’t allow any supplier to connect equipment to their power supply without seeing valid PAT certification and proof of public liability insurance first. What Is PAT Testing?
PAT testing — Portable Appliance Testing, now more formally known as In-Service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment — is the standard electrical safety check for portable equipment. It combines a visual inspection with an electrical test of each item, and for a wedding DJ that covers everything from the sound system and amplifiers to the lighting rig, cables and power distribution units used on the day.
Why It Matters for Your Wedding
Hotels, castles, stately homes and other premium venues typically require proof of PAT testing — and public liability insurance — before any external supplier’s equipment is allowed anywhere near their power supply. It’s part of how venues protect their building, their staff and your guests, and it’s usually a condition your venue coordinator will ask about directly. A supplier who can’t provide this documentation can, in some cases, simply not be permitted to perform.
