Home » Scottish Wedding DJ » The Best Wedding Venues in Edinburgh for a Packed Dancefloor

Not all wedding venues are created equal when it comes to the dancefloor. Some rooms simply work — the acoustics, the layout, the atmosphere all combine to create a space where people want to dance. Others, despite being visually beautiful, present challenges that make it harder to generate and sustain that energy.

After performing at venues across Edinburgh for over 1,000 weddings, we know which spaces consistently deliver brilliant evenings. Here are our favourites — from our own experience, not a directory.

Prestonfield House

The Stables Ballroom at Prestonfield is one of Edinburgh’s best DJ venues — a circular space with built-in sound infrastructure and excellent acoustics. The circular layout means no guest feels far from the dancefloor, which helps enormously with energy. Add the peacocks in the grounds and the extraordinary interiors of the main house, and you have a venue that creates the perfect conditions for a great night. Mansfield Traquair

Edinburgh’s Sistine Chapel is not without its acoustic challenges — the high vaulted ceilings and hard surfaces require careful sound management. But when it’s set up correctly, the combination of those extraordinary murals, the scale of the space, and the right lighting creates an atmosphere for dancing that is genuinely unlike anywhere else in Edinburgh. Uplighting here is particularly spectacular. Find out more about DJing at Mansfield Traquair →

Dynamic Earth

Dynamic Earth’s main event space — the Stratosphere — is one of Edinburgh’s most dramatic venues. The domed ceiling, the modern infrastructure, and the central dancefloor layout all combine to create excellent conditions for a big wedding party. The venue’s own technical setup is excellent, which makes our job easier and the results better.

The Caves

For a more atmospheric wedding party, The Caves beneath Edinburgh’s South Bridge are hard to beat. The high ceilings and stone walls create a naturally warm acoustic — sound stays in the room and builds quickly. It’s a venue that almost does the DJ’s job for them in terms of atmosphere. Lighting effects here are magnificent.

Assembly Rooms

The Music Hall at the Assembly Rooms on George Street is one of Edinburgh’s grandest spaces — a genuinely impressive ballroom with excellent proportions for large wedding parties. The scale means you need a properly sized sound system and a DJ who knows how to fill the room, but when it’s done right the results are outstanding.

A Note on Acoustics

One thing we’d always encourage couples to consider when choosing a venue is to ask specifically about the dancefloor space and acoustics — not just the ceremony room or the dining room. Many couples choose a venue based on how it looks for photographs and discover on the night that the evening room doesn’t work as well as they’d hoped.

If you’re not sure about a venue, ask your DJ. We’ve almost certainly worked there and can give you an honest answer.
