Music Planning
- ✓ First dance confirmed — song, version, timing
- ✓ Any other special dances (father-daughter, mother-son, etc)
- ✓ Last dance song if you have one in mind
- ✓ Must-play list submitted
- ✓ Do-not-play list submitted
- ✓ General vibe and era preferences discussed
- ✓ Ceilidh set — confirmed yes/no, duration, timing
- ✓ Any specific cultural or family music considerations
- ✓ Ceremony music confirmed (if applicable) — processional, signing, recessional
- ✓ Wedding breakfast music style confirmed
Logistics and Timing
- ✓ DJ arrival and setup time agreed with venue
- ✓ Load-in access route confirmed
- ✓ DJ finishing time confirmed
- ✓ Evening guest arrival time
- ✓ First dance timing confirmed within the run of the evening
- ✓ Any specific timing constraints (venue curfews, sound restrictions)
- ✓ Meal finish time estimated so evening can be planned accordingly
Venue and Technical
- ✓ Venue contact details shared with DJ
- ✓ Venue layout and DJ setup position confirmed
- ✓ Power supply location confirmed
- ✓ Any venue-specific rules confirmed (noise levels, access, confetti policy)
- ✓ Cold spark machines or other enhancements — venue permission confirmed
MC and Announcements
- ✓ Wedding party names and pronunciations confirmed
- ✓ Speech order and speakers confirmed
- ✓ Any specific announcements needed throughout the day
- ✓ Cake cutting — when and whether to announce
- ✓ Any surprises or special moments the DJ needs to know about
Practical
- ✓ DJ contact number for the day confirmed
- ✓ Final balance payment made (if applicable)
- ✓ Confirm DJ has public liability insurance certificate for venue if required
- ✓ Confirm PAT test certificate for venue if required
The Week Before
A quick check-in call or message with your DJ in the week before your wedding is always worthwhile — just to confirm everything is in order, check there are no last-minute changes, and make sure you’re both relaxed and ready. A good DJ will often initiate this themselves.
