As a wedding DJ, Stair Arms Hotel is a venue I was glad to add to my list. It joins the other Scottish wedding venues I work at regularly. It’s a traditional stone country hotel in Pathhead, Midlothian, with a purpose-built wedding chapel and mature gardens. That combination gives couples ceremony, reception and evening party all under one roof.

The Venue
Stair Arms Hotel sits in Pathhead, Midlothian (EH37 5TX), within easy reach of Edinburgh. It’s a period stone building with real character. There’s an on-site wedding chapel for couples who want ceremony and reception in one place. There are also on-site bedrooms for guests staying over. The gardens give a straightforward flow between indoor and outdoor space during the day. It suits couples who want something traditional without the formality of a bigger hotel.
The Evening Party
The evening reception room takes a white LED dance floor and light-up Mr & Mrs letters well. Both were part of the setup for Demi and Christopher’s wedding, supplied by Instapic. I recommend them on my recommended wedding suppliers page. A flower wall and generous floral displays gave the room a proper focal point behind the dance floor.
Once the evening gets going, this is a room that fills the floor and keeps it full. I’ve had good energy here from a genuine mix of ages, not just the wedding party. The room also handles a live element well. A saxophonist played live over my DJ set for an hour at Demi and Christopher’s wedding. The room carried it nicely without needing to fight the acoustics.
Practical Information
Stair Arms Hotel is on-site parking, which makes load-in straightforward. If your wedding breakfast overruns, as most do at some point, the venue has been flexible. It’s happy to push the evening reception start back rather than cutting it short. That matters when you want a proper night of dancing. I finished Demi and Christopher’s evening at 1am. In my experience, a finish that late is genuinely the better option, rather than the more common midnight cut-off. It keeps the night ending on a high rather than fizzling out.
